Week 4 Final Video "Option 2" Short Documentary

a

Here is my week 4 final video for Emergent Technologies.  I opted for the Documentary "Option 2".

PE9_Working with Flash Selecting lines and shapes

In Flash using the selection tool (in the merged objects formate) you can select and manipulate the Fill, the boarder, or even half of an object to create your artwork.

Shapes and objects can be distorted, or molded.  much like working with clay, you can grab the edges of an object and move them to create a shape that you desire.
Flash is a very powerful tool.  since this is my first time using it I can say it seems user friendly.  I think that if I used it often, like any software a person could pick up on it quite easy.

PE8_Working with Flash Drawing Basic Shapes

Before you begin drawing shapes or lines in Flash, you must first select weather or not you want to use merge drawings or object drawings.  Object drawings are the original formate for Flash.  I did all my drawings in object drawing mode because the narrator on Lynda.com said to.  So I stuck with it.  I think that as I use Flash more.  I will be able to understand why I would use merge or object drawing mode.

I think that if you were good at flash you would be disgusted with my art work.  But this is my first attempt at flash and like anybody who has gone through Lynda.com training they may look similar.

PE7_Working with Flash

Ok,  Before This class I have never even heard of flash.  Opening and understanding what flash is, is a large part of this post.  Flash is a multimedia platform used to add animation, video and interactivity to web pages,  Flash is also used for advertisements and games.  Flash uses vector graphics to provide animation to text, drawings, and still images.  Flashes animations can be viewed on various computer systems and mobile devices. Flash is a part of the Adobe software package that I received through Fullsail University.  You can download Adobe Flash Player free of charge for most common web browsers and some mobile phones.  I have both an I phone and and Ipad, neither of them support flash the last time I tried.  I am using Lynda.com and watching the tutorials which is doing a great job of getting me started and learning the basics.
I have learned that flash creates FLA files and SWF files.  FLA is the Flash working file.  This is comparable to a Photo Shop file called PSD.  and the SWF type of file is comparable to a JPEG file.
I have created a new File here in flash and am editing the settings for a FLA file.  I set the stage size and background color to white.
I hope to learn all about flash so that I am successful in the upcoming months projects, that is why I chose to learn and Blog about Flash.

Thanks for following my Blog.

PE6_Google Docs, sharing your documents in Google Docs.

Sharing your Google Doc
Manage Projects, Teams or Tasks Share Files Online.  Google Docs is an excellent way to collaborate with individuals or group of people.  When sharing a file with google doc. you can give permission to allow the people that you send it to to be able to either view or even edit the document.  The part that I have been most impressed with is that if everybody is online and all looking at the document you can edit it, together. Then all agree on the finished product.
I have not got the chance to try using this outside FSO.  I do plan on using it to collaborate with the other Tech teachers in my school.  We share documents quite often back and forth, but they are usually paper copies and it takes quite a while to all agree and come up with a final piece.

PE5_Google Docs, Uploading Documents into Google Docs

PE4_Google Docs, Learning to Create a New Doc

Here I am learning to use Google Docs.  Lynda.com tutorials have help me to understand even the most basic concepts of google docs.  I started out by learning how to create a new document load it into a folder and label everything.

On the main Goggle Doc interface select the Create New Tab on the left side of the screen.  This is a drop down menu.  Here you can select any type of document that you like.  For example, blank word documents, spreed sheets, presentations, drawings and even a folder for organizing.

Here I have created a new doc.  The range of tools to edit your document is quite extensive.

Next,  I will create a folder to place all my unshared documents in.

Select Create New File.

Name the File.

Save

Here you can see the list of folders that I have. There is only one, but it is a folder.

Google Docs enables multiple people in different locations to collaborate simultaneously on the same doc from any computer with Internet access.  And better than the software you’d have on your desktop, you can access them from anywhere you access your Gmail – so no worries about computer crashes or leaving a paper at home.

BP9_Web 2.0 Tool review "Goanimate.com"

Goanimate is my Web 2.0 tool review for the week.  Goanimate lets people create short animated films and publish them on the internet.  The online software is easy to learn and quite simple to use.  The cartoon characters can be made to perform a wide variety of actions including emotion and body reaction.  Users create a bank of characters to add in and out of your cartoon, as you like.  Your avatar can be made to look like anybody or any thing you want.  You can type what you want your character to say or you can even record your voice through your telephone and upload it directly into the software.  Then you create different scenes through a wide variety of backdrops.  The scenes can be 2 min. in length with the free version of Goanimate or you can invest in an upgrade with more scenes and many more options, but this cost money.  Once your animated shorts are created you can upload to the goanimate extensive collection of user-created features.  Here you share your features with groups or make your cartoons public.  Facebook and twitter are also supported.
This is just my opinion but is seems like there would be a very narrow window of people that would use this Web 2.0 tool.    Young children may not understand the software and older teens and adults may be to mature to enjoy the finished products.  But for a narrow group of young teens this might be a great way of introducing on line sharing along with cartoon creation.
I would like to try using Goanimate for storyboarding during the planning stages of video productions.

PE2_Imovie Adding Beat Markers

I love this feature.  This is the coolest thing since Sliced Bread.  After selecting a song or music track, (something with a beat).  You can place beat markers by simply pressing the "M" key as the playhead scrolls through your song.  Depending on how long you want your slides to show determines witch beat patteren that you use.  I believe that the narrator on Lynda.com tutorials called them Bars (what ever that means).  Drag and Drop your photos or video to the work area and IMovie automatically changes the photo at the next beat marker.  The Ken Burns effect is added as well to create motion which always adds interest to your feature.
Here you see the progression of slides is my wife while prego, she was so beautiful,  then Trent was born, washing him, being held by both my boys, my dad and then me.  The song I chose was Soul-Man by the Blues Brothers.  It worked Great.

PE1_Imovie, Certificate of Completion

Here is a certificate of completion in I-Movie '09 Essential Training.  I have to admit I learned quite a lot about I movie having to force myself to sit through that.

I highly recommend the training to get the most out of your time with IMovie.

Diigo Education
www.diigo.com

Diigo Education is an extremely handy site. During our first Web 2.0 Research Blog assignment, I had looked this one up (wrote about a different site using video techniques) and have been using it since.  Diigo education is a site that will act as a ‘bookmark’ holder for either one individual or a community.
As a teaching staff, there are more than one of us that teach video classes and other technology education classes.  So I’ve created a community that we all belong to and have websites ‘tabbed’ there to view for us at various times throughout the quarter/semester.  They’re common sites that we all use, but rather than us all having to have the various sites bookmarked on our own computers, we can log into the Diigo site and find it. Creating the account is free and the search for the site you’re looking for is easy, as long as you’ve created keywords for it that are universally thought of amongst the group.
I know how I’ve used it so far is just a smidgeon of what it’s capable of.  It can be used as to highlight text, write comments on a web page, organize ideas and resources, and do group-based collaboration with your students.  Available is the Diigo Educator’s Account.  Again, for free, this allows you to upgrade to have students’ accounts in a class set as a private group.  Also, sponsors and ads of these pages are limited to education-related businesses.
An additional way that I’m thinking of using it is to have my students create their own community.   From what I’ve read, it seems to be a private social networking page amongst our video class.  This will be safe place to have group bookmarks, a forum to communicate about various researched items, and hopefully help them to collaborate using new technology.

BP4_Web 2.0 resource review by, Bryan Hammitt

WOW, I need to start this blog out by saying that I had no idea that there were so many Web 2.0 tools!  The Go2Web20 list was quite long.  I researched a site called HighlightCam.  Create an Awesome Video Montage in just a few clicks is what it says on there web site.  This caught my eye.  I teach video production class at our local high school.  I like to try new things in my classroom.  This is a perfect opportunity for my class to receive a different kind of feedback about the videos that they create.  The idea behind the website is to upload your raw video files and audio files to HighlightCam.com, they will somehow evaluate the "highlights" and recreate a new, shorter, more watchable video.  HC will also add your favorite music to the new video.  That's cool.  Yes I know what you are all thinking,  aren't you students doing the editing of their own video's?  Normally yes,  I would like my students to send there footage to HC, let them create a highlight video.  My students will also create a highlight video and then compare the two.
I created two short highlight videos using HC.  I was relatively impressed with the process.  Both videos were much shorter than the original footage.  HC made it very simple to use.  I am very excited to implement this into my classroom.

BP1_Welcome to Bryan Hammitt's First blog post EVER....

Hey every body.  I am excited to try blogging!!  First of all, my brain is over-loaded with ideas in how I can incorporate blogging into my classroom.  The hard part is just starting.  You know the old saying, " Painting is easy,  80% of the work is getting ready".
And yes I live where it gets really cold....  Northern Minnesota.  I have pics of my trucks temp gauge says  -40f and I love it.  Why you ask?  Because not to many other people do.

Share your cold weather stories with me!!
